Installation and Fit

For a retrofit, the Orion V2 Traditional slides into an existing fireplace opening. Optional Modern Flames surround trim kits are offered for the 26", 30", and 36" models to cover a wider opening. In new construction, it can be framed as a built-in clean-face fireplace or finished as a self-trimming unit.

Built-in clean face requires a 10-1/2" minimum rough-opening depth; self-trimming requires a 10" minimum.
Rough openings range from 23" W x 18-3/4" H on the 26" model to 50-15/16" W x 32-3/4" H on the 54" model.
All sizes include a 120V plug and are hardwire ready. The 36", 42", and 54" models can be wired for 240V to increase heat output.

Outdoor installation

The Orion V2 Traditional can go into an outdoor kitchen or covered patio wall, provided it is built in and protected by a solid roof that keeps rain and direct sunlight off the glass. Modern Flames sets minimum distances for how far that cover must extend in front of and beside the fireplace, plus a minimum height for the unit above the patio floor, so check those figures in the manual before framing. Open decks and slatted pergolas don't provide enough protection.
