The Modern Flames Orion V2 Multi Series is the second generation of Modern Flames' flagship virtual electric fireplace. It pairs a next-generation LCD flame display with a lit split-wood log set, custom-engineered speakers, and the new Modern Flames+ app, all in a clean-face linear firebox that can be configured as front-facing, left-corner, right-corner, or three-sided bay.
This series is built for statement installations such as media walls, room dividers, corner features, and large open-plan living spaces where the fireplace is meant to anchor the room. Modern Flames rates the Orion V2 Multi for both indoor and covered outdoor use.

Good Fit If
- You want a fireplace that looks convincing from more than one side.
- You are planning a corner, room-divider, or three-sided bay installation.
- You want Modern Flames' most realistic linear flame presentation, complete with a lit log set.
- You like the idea of a fireplace that gains new flame styles and themes over time through app updates.
- You want built-in audio for crackling fire sounds or Bluetooth music.
- You are building it into a wall and can run a dedicated circuit, or you plan to wall mount it with a Studio Suites mantel.
Not Ideal If
- You want to plug the fireplace in on its own. It arrives without a power cord; plug-in use is only an option with the Studio Suites wall-mount mantel.
- Your wall is framed with 2x6 studs and cannot be deepened. The Orion V2 Slim is engineered for that depth.
- You want a traditional square firebox. See the Orion V2 Traditional.
- You want it on an uncovered deck or under an open pergola. Outdoor approval requires a solid patio cover.
- You need the fireplace to act as the primary heat source for your home.
Key Features
- Next-generation LCD flame display: Sharper contrast, deeper blacks, and richer color than the original Orion, with adaptive brightness that adjusts the flames to the light in the room.
- 24 flame options out of the box: Three flagship multi-dimensional linear flame styles plus a fourth slot that can be swapped for additional flame styles, colors, or themes from the app library.
- Over-the-air updates: New flames and themes arrive through the Modern Flames+ app, and up to six experiences can be stored on the fireplace at once.
- Lit split-wood log set: Internally lit logs made from real split wood sit over an active glowing ember bed, highlighted by brighter downlighting.
- Premium audio: Custom speakers, Bluetooth streaming, and three crackling soundscapes: Classic Crackling, Starry Night, and Stormy Night.
- PTC ceramic heater: Quiet, consistent supplemental heat with 5,000 BTU at 120V or up to 10,000 BTU at 240V.
- Flexible configuration: Single-sided, left corner, right corner, or three-sided bay built-in, or wall mounted with a Modern Flames Studio Suites mantel.
- Smart control: Adjust flame, ember-bed, and downlight colors from the remote or the iOS/Android app, and connect to compatible smart-home systems for hands-free control.
Installation and Fit
The Orion V2 Multi installs as a built-in clean-face fireplace, so the finished wall runs right up to the glass. The viewing configuration is set at framing, so decide which glass faces will remain exposed before the wall is built.
- Rough-opening height is 24-3/4" for every size, with a 9" minimum depth for fully recessed framing.
- Rough-opening widths run from 51" for the 52" model to 124" for the 120" model. Three-sided bay openings differ slightly; see the manual.
- Can also be wall mounted with a Modern Flames Studio Suites mantel.
Power and wiring
Because the Multi is designed to live inside a wall, it is shipped ready to hardwire and does not come with a power cord. Plan on an electrician connecting it to a dedicated 20-amp circuit near the top right of the framed opening. Wiring at 120V gives you 5,000 BTU of heat; a 240V connection on a 2-pole breaker raises that to 10,000 BTU. If you would rather skip the wall work, the Studio Suites mantel turns the Multi into a wall-mounted, plug-in fireplace for a standard 120V outlet (the 5,000 BTU setting). The mantel is offered for the 52", 60", and 76" sizes.
Outdoor installation
Modern Flames approves the Orion V2 Multi for outdoor living spaces only as a built-in, and only where a patio roof shelters it from rain and direct sun. The cover is sized from the fireplace itself: take the distance from the bottom of the unit up to the patio ceiling, and the roof must reach out in front by at least half that distance, with the same minimum protection on each side. A fireplace sitting 8 feet below the ceiling, for example, needs at least 4 feet of cover in front and at both sides. The bottom of the fireplace must also be at least 2 inches above the patio floor. Wall-mounted outdoor installs, open decks, and slatted pergolas don't qualify.
Before ordering, confirm the exact rough opening for your size and configuration, your voltage plan, and your finish materials in the model-specific manual.

Common Questions
How is the Orion V2 Multi different from the original Orion Multi?
V2 upgrades the LCD panel and adds adaptive brightness, expands to 24 flame options with new styles delivered through the Modern Flames+ app, adds built-in speakers with Bluetooth, and introduces a lit split-wood log set. It is also approved for covered outdoor built-in installations.
Can the Orion V2 Multi be installed as a corner or three-sided fireplace?
Yes. It can be framed as a single-sided, left-corner, right-corner, or three-sided bay fireplace. Choose the configuration before framing the wall.
Can I plug in the Orion V2 Multi, or does it have to be hardwired?
The fireplace ships without a power cord because built-in installations are meant to be hardwired to a dedicated 20-amp circuit. For a plug-in setup, wall mount it with the Modern Flames Studio Suites mantel, which lets it run from a standard 120V outlet. The mantel is available for the 52-, 60-, and 76-inch sizes.
Does the Orion V2 Multi need 240V?
No. It produces up to 5,000 BTU on 120V. Hardwiring it to a 240V circuit with a 2-pole breaker unlocks up to 10,000 BTU.
Can the flames run without heat?
Yes. The flame display, lighting, and audio can all be used with the heater off, so the fireplace can be enjoyed year-round.
Can the Orion V2 Multi be installed outdoors?
Yes, as a built-in under a solid patio roof that keeps it out of rain and direct sun. The cover in front and at each side must extend at least half the distance from the bottom of the fireplace to the patio ceiling, and the unit must sit at least 2 inches above the floor. Wall-mounted outdoor installs, open decks, and slatted pergolas are not approved.
Which size should I choose?
Choose by wall width, viewing distance, and room scale. The 52-inch and 60-inch models suit most living rooms and bedrooms, while the 76-inch, 100-inch, and 120-inch models are better suited to great rooms, media walls, and commercial spaces.
